Once upon a time I lived in the vibrant North Beach section of San Francisco, home to the greatest collection of Italian restaurants, per capita, of anywhere I know, hilly streets and great views from all around. Rents are high, parking is scarce and the locals are a whole lot of fun. Cut to today, where armed with my video camera and asst. Chris, I set out to show the best of North Beach in 3 minutes. That’s a tall order–you need more time, but it’s great to offer a sneak peek to Molinari’s Deli (amazing sandwiches) Caffe Trieste, everyone’s favorite local hangout (just ask Francis Ford Coppola), Coit Tower, City Lights Books, and all the pastries and breads I could fit in.

Meet Maria Seidman of YAPP

I recently met up with Maria Seidman, who runs the New York City based tech startup Yapp from the basement of her upper west side apartment.
She wrote me this morning and asked to see some of the photos–nearly 3 months after the shoot, and I feared they were lost. But thankfully, I discovered them hidden on a 32 GB SD card at the bottom of a pile, so it’s great to bring Maria and her pixels back to life!

We had a great turnout for last weekend’s Video seminar @Julia Dean Photo workshops in Hollywood.
We talked about DSLRs for about 30 minutes, and then got right to work. We showed how to shoot an interview, and then got more ambitious at lunch–we all brought cameras to a local Chipotle to make a little story about our lunch. After a quick edit and with only an hour left for the day, we shot a quick video about JDPW, and edited it on the spot.

Jazz great Bobby McFerrin on Talking Your Tech

On a recent tour stop in Los Angeles, jazz great Bobby McFerrin spent some time with me at the glitzy J.W. Marriott in downtown L.A. recently to talk music, improvisation and tech. While tech isn’t necessarily one of his favorite subjects, he did warm to the idea that his 1988 hit, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” has taken on a new life online, with dozens of parodies and covers.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to see McFerrin live, get out there and check him out. There’s nobody out there like him. His vocal gymnastics are just amazing. McFerrin is all over Europe in June
